FAQ

• Due to the closure of the left luggage service for sanitary reasons, the pushchairs are tolerated inside of the Palace. We strongly recommend the use of baby carriers and kangaroo bags as much as possible. Thank you for your understanding.
• Certain items (large bags, suitcases, rucksacks, umbrellas, pushchairs, baby carriers with metal frames, sharp objects etc.) are prohibited in the Palace rooms and may be left at the left luggage desk. It is advisable to bring a baby pouch or a sling with no metal frame for children aged under one year. Pushchairs are allowed in the Park and Gardens

Some visitors are entitled to free admission to the Palace (the State Apartments, Hall of Mirrors etc.), the Trianon palaces, Marie-Antoinette's Estate, the temporary exhibitions and the audioguides:

• Young people under 18 years old
• European Union residents under 26 years old
• School pupils
• Teachers appointed to a French school with their Education Pass
• Disabled people and an accompanying adult
• French jobseekers on presentation of documentary proof dated within the last 6 months

If you are entitled to free admission, you must book a time-stamped ticket. To do this, book the slot of your choice online and select the free ticket option.
NB: you may still have a long wait at the entrance check points.

The Palace and Estate of Trianon are closed on Mondays

Opening times vary depending on the location and time of year. The Palace and the Estate of Trianon are closed on Mondays.

• The Palace of Versailles is open from 9am to 5.30pm (6.30pm in high season).
• The Estate of Trianon is open from 12 noon to 5.30pm (12 noon to 6.30pm from April to June and September to October, 10am to 6.30pm in July and August).
• The Gardens are open from 8am to 6pm (8.30pm in high season).
• The Park is open from 8am to 6pm (7am to 8.30pm in high season).

During the high season and on the most crowded days, especially Tuesdays and weekends, we recommend visiting the Palace as soon as it opens at 9am.

From midday, you can visit the palaces of Trianon and Marie-Antoinette’s Estate. You can also enjoy the Gallery of Coaches from 12.30pm.

The Estate of Trianon (the Grand Trianon, the Petit Trianon and Marie-Antoinette’s Estate) is open from 12.00pm.

From the city via the Park :
On foot, by bike or car, go through the Saint Anthony gate (pedestrians and bikes, vehicles are only allowed between 9am and 5.50pm on week-ends during high season) or through the Queen’s Gate (vehicles are only allowed between 9am and 4.50pm or 5.50pm depending on the season).

From the Palace via the Gardens and Park :
On foot (30 minutes), on the little train or in an electric vehicle (20 minutes). Go through the Prince’s Courtyard to enter the gardens.
NB: the admission to the Gardens is charged on Musical Fountains Show and Musical Gardens days (included in the Passport ticket).

Public transport:
In high season (April to October), the TRI bus of the Versailles Phébus network runs between Versailles Chantiers train station, Versailles Château Rive Gauche train station, the Palace of Versailles, Versailles Rive Droite train station and the Palaces of Trianon (terminus “Les Trianons”).

Disabled access :
It is advisable to go to the Estate of Trianon by car or bus from the city, or in an electric vehicle from the Palace.
Enter via the Queen’s Gate; parking is and dedicated spaces are available upon presentation of proof of disability (proof of disability card or European disabled parking permit).
There are access ramps at the entrances to the Trianon Palaces.
Manual wheelchairs are available for free for visiting the Grand Trianon and the Petit Trianon.
Guide dogs and trainers are allowed upon presentation of proof.
Please note that the first floor of the Petit Trianon is not accessible to people with a motor disability, but a multimedia room on the ground floor provides a presentation of the first floor and the attic.

Due to application of the anti-terrorist security plan, large bags and suitcases are prohibited. Automatic deposits are at your disposal to leave your personal items and luggage that do not exceed the limited format.

The Palace and Estate of Versailles are open. In compliance with government regulations, health precautions and measures to control numbers have been put in place.

• Pushchairs are allowed in the Gardens and the Park.
• Under normal circumstances, pushchairs and metal baby carriers  are not allowed inside of the Palace. You must leave them at the free bag deposit. We advise you to bring a baby carrier without a metal frame for babies under one year old.

The main entrance to the Palace of Versailles is via the Honour Gate.

For unaccompanied visits of the Palace:

• If you do not have tickets when you arrive and are not eligible for free admission, go to the ticket office in the South Ministers' Wing (on the left of the Honour Courtyard), then proceed to Entrance A of the Palace for individuals.
• If you have booked your ticket online and printed it at home, or if you are entitled to free admission: go directly to Entrance A of the Palace with your documentary proof.

For Guided Tours:
The guided tours reception of the Palace is located in the North Ministers' Wing (on the right of the Honour Courtyard).

For disabled people:
The central pedestrian path from the Honour Gate provides easier access to the Royal Gate and Entrance A.
Parking in the Honour Courtyard is free for disabled people on presentation of named proof of disability (proof of disability card or European disabled parking permit).

The Park surrounding the Grand Canal is free and open daily (except in extreme weather conditions: snow, strong winds, etc.) and can be accessed via the gardens or the city.  You may visit the park on foot, horseback, by boat, Segway®, with an electric vehicle or on the little train.  Vehicles must pay a fee to enter the Park (€3 for motorcycles, €6 for cars, €30 for coaches) except for disabled people upon presentation of proof of disability. Parking spaces are available at the Grand Canal, at the entrance to the Petit Trianon, the Grand Trianon and the Queen's Hamlet.

From the city, three entrances provide direct access to the park, depending on what you want to see:

• The Queen's Gate (north-east): located on the Boulevard de la Reine, near the gardens.
  On foot or by bike from 7am or 8am to 6pm or 8:30pm depending on the season, or by car from 9am to 4:50pm or 5:50pm.
• Saint Anthony Gate (north): located on D186 when arriving from Chesnay, near Marie-Antoinette’s Estate. 
  On foot or bike from 9:30am to 6pm or 7pm depending on the season. Vehicles are only allowed on weekends in high season (access is charged, last entrance is at 6:50pm). 
• Sailors' Gate (south): located on Route de Saint-Cyr (D10). 
  On foot or by bike from 9:30am to 6pm or 7pm depending on the season.

You can reach the Park from the Palace by crossing the gardens on foot and going through the Petite Venise Gate.

NB: admission to the gardens is charged on Musical Fountain Show and Musical Gardens days. You cannot cross the gardens on these dates without paying the entrance fee.

• All the areas open for unaccompanied visits of the Palace and the Grand Trianon are accessible for disabled people.
• The first floor of the Petit Trianon is not accessible to people with a motor disability. However, a multimedia room on the ground floor provides a presentation of the first floor and the attic.

Transport within Versailles

A little train provides a shuttle service between the Palace and the Estate of Trianon, and stops at both the Petit Trianon and the Grand Trianon (full price: €6.90; concessions: €5.30; train-versailles.com).
Electric vehicles are available and accessible for people with reduced mobility, allowing you to travel independently and including five suggested routes from the South Terrace (discover the gardens, Trianon and the Queen's Hamlet, tour of the Grand Canal, explore the Estate: €30 per hour).

Dining and shops

There are many options for buying refreshments and souvenirs throughout the gardens and Trianon palaces.

You can also buy gifts and extend your Versailles experience on our online shop. Choose from a selection of books, jewellery and other items inspired by the Palace’s collections and exhibitions.

Where can I have a picnic?

Picnics are not allowed in the Versailles gardens. Picnics are only allowed in the Park, where there are several dining areas available. You can also picnic at the Lake of the Swiss Guard (located outside the estate and accessible on foot from the Palace - opposite the Orangery).

The groves are closed in low season. They are open in high season for the Musical Fountains Show and Musical Gardens, allowing you to stroll through the gardens listening to Baroque music as you discover the 15 groves open just for the occasion.
